Kirsty is a highly experienced Counter Terrorism Detective, currently seconded from Cumbria Constabulary to the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO), where she leads the Counter Weapons Threat Team.
She is a UK Policing expert in both Protective Security and the threats posed from stand-off weapons.
She has significant experience of working at Critical National Infrastructure locations within the Nuclear, Maritime and Aviation sectors.
She is also a CBRN specialist (Chemical, Biological, and Radiological & Nuclear) and Counter Terrorism Forensic Manager.
She has worked on a significant number of Counter Terrorism attacks within the UK, including the Manchester Arena attack and the Salisbury poisonings.
Internationally she delivers bespoke training across the world in support of UK Counter Terrorism Capacity building programmes.
The Counter Weapons Threat Team are a unique Counter Terrorism capability consisting of subject matter experts who provide advice and guidance from the threats posed from stand-off weapons within the UK Civil Aviation Space and to high profile events , protected person and locations.
The team use a highly specialist software solution, to produce bespoke vulnerability assessments which are used to mitigate threat and risk from a protective security perspective. This includes the protection of CNI sites.
The Counter Weapons Threat team (CWTT) work closely with partners in the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Air Force, within the Protect and Prepare Pillars of the UK CONTEST strategy. The CWTT team are also work closely with their counterparts in the United States Transportation Security Administration.
