At GridIntel, I oversee the Security Operations Center (SOC) and serve as the product manager of VigilantGrid, an IT/OT security monitoring tool. Working in the SOC, I have the opportunity to monitor and alert threats, helping utilities secure their assets. As the manager of VigilantGrid I am tasked with developing ways to gather, understand and provide data in order to understand the big picture and secure the cyber-physical system. After growing up in a tech-rich household in the 80s and serving in the United States Marine Corps, I found my way into Cybersecurity. After spending some time focused on the networking side of the house I found my way to the power industry where I get to help secure our critical assets.

The energy sector has become the most critical of sectors. Without power, driven by oil, gas and renewable energies, all other CI stops. Recent cyber attacks on the energy sector, as well as natural hazards, from hurricanes in the Gulf to fires in California, gives much room for thought on how we best protect our most vital assets, including IT/OT and SCADA systems. How can we mitigate the impact of an attack or outage on the wider community and society, and build greater grid resilience?
