Rennie Growl is the Security and Emergency Response Discipline at Bayer Crop Science’s Luling Site. With over 25 years supporting site operations, he is a subject matter expert that provides oversight and support for compliance with global, regional, and local regulations, across security, emergency response, contractor/guest and occupational health and safety programs.
Rennie has held various roles of increasing responsibility, starting his career in production operations and then as part of a site expansion capital project team. He assumed his current role at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, where he contributed to developing and maintaining site-wide protocols. In 2021, he led comprehensive planning, response, and recovery efforts prior to and following Hurricane Ida. His responsibilities include supporting the site’s Security and Emergency Response Team’s multidisciplinary readiness and effectiveness; developing and maintaining procedures by interpreting evolving government regulations; providing guidance and leadership during incident response, drills, and training; administration and support for systems such as fire protection, fire water distribution, badge access control, security investigations and weather monitoring. He serves as the point of contact with the St. Charles Parish Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, mutual aid partners, and community stakeholders for emergencies, feedback, and complaints. Rennie interfaces with other Bayer sites, regional, and global teams to share best practices and contribute to program, policy, and procedure development. He provides input for aspects of voluntary compliance programs including VPP, RC 14001, and RMP.
A key recent initiative that Rennie helped to establish is the in-house unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV/drone) program to enhance security and emergency response capabilities at the site. Use cases outside of security and emergency response were quickly identified and the program has delivered substantial cost savings and improved operational resilience. Advancements toward remote and autonomous operations continue to expand the program’s holistic site support and highlights drone applications for protection and efficiency in industrial environments.
Rennie has certifications as an Industrial Firefighter and HazMat Technician, completed multiple NIMS/ICS courses, is a registered EMT and serves as the Alternate Facility Security Officer at the site for USCG MTSA compliance. He is the President of the St. Charles Parish Mutual Aid Association, and a member of the St. Charles Parish Economic Development Council, InfraGard and LOMSEC (Louisiana Maritime Security Community). Rennie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security Studies with honors from Tulane University.
