Bruce Braes CSyP CPP PSP CRISC CSC CNSP FSyI FISRM is Principal of RiskAdviza, his independent adversarial risk management advisory and publishing practice, and co-founder of Optimal Crisis Leaders, which develops crisis leadership capability for Critical National Infrastructure. He was previously Director and Global Head of Security and Public Safety Consulting at Buro Happold Engineering, where he built security consulting teams in the UK, India, Saudi Arabia and the United States. He is UK Expert to ISO Technical Committees 292 (Security and Resilience) and 262 (Risk Management), and a former Director of the ASIS International Professional Standards Board. Bruce served in military intelligence and in law and order before a career in international security consulting across six continents, including senior roles at Jacobs, AECOM and WSP. He is a Chartered Security Professional and Fellow of the Security Institute, and holds Master’s degrees in Security Management, Risk Management and Security Science. He holds the Freedom of the City of London and received ASIS United Kingdom’s Mervyn David Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.

Rather than adding protection after systems are developed, these principles integrate threat modelling, risk assessment, secure supply chains, operational resilience and recovery from the earliest concept and design stages through development, deployment, operation, maintenance and eventual decommissioning.
