Commissioner Skrmetta has saved ratepayers over $8 billion since taking office, reducing residential utility rates to the lowest in the nation. He has ushered in new power plants to build Louisiana’s energy efficiency and independence. He improved water systems, demanded transparency on consumer billing, protected Louisiana communities by ensuring prison telephone calls remain monitored, reduced storm recovery costs, and returned over a half billion dollars in rate credits to Louisiana consumers. He is also the first Public Service Commissioner in the nation to have proposed and passed a directive that orders the state’s grid operators to cease purchasing, and including, any foreign produced devices in electric utilities from hostile adversaries, such as the People’s Republic of China.

Recent cyber attacks on the energy sector, as well as natural hazards, from hurricanes in the Gulf to fires in California, gives much room for thought on how we best protect our most vital assets, including IT/OT and SCADA systems. How can we mitigate the impact of an attack or outage on the wider community and society, and build greater grid resilience?
