Janet St John is the Director of Cybersecurity for the Association of American Railroads, serving the North American rail industry and the AAR membership in the industry’s security program. In this position, Ms. St John supports the Rail Information Security Committee – the focal point of the industry’s unified, cooperative cybersecurity efforts. The RISC comprises of Chief Information Security Officers and information assurance officials for the railroads and industry organizations that are dedicated to a sustained industry commitment to coordinated efforts in enhancing cybersecurity to continuously protect information technology networks and operational technology systems from cyber threats.
Ms. St John has worked in transportation with a focus on security and cyber security for over 25 years. Prior to joining the AAR in 2018, she conducted Cybersecurity and Insider Threat Maturity Assessments for KPMG and worked as a team leader on the National Background Investigation Bureau reform contract. In addition Ms. St John led the Operational Threats and Analysis Branch of the Cyber Threat Analysis Division (CTAD) at the Department of State and managed several critical infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Centers including the Surface Transportation ISAC, supporting the freight rail industry and the AAR. She remains an active member in the National Council of ISACs and supports information sharing initiatives with federal and international partners.
Ms. St John graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and Economics and with a Professional Certification in Geographic Information Systems.
