Mr. Waqas Ahmed serves as a Senior Cybersecurity Advisor in the CISA Emergency Communications Division (ECD). In his previous roll at ECD, he was the Cybersecurity Specialist for the Cyber Resilient 911 effort. Prior to joining CISA as a federal employee, Mr. Ahmed supported the CISA Cybersecurity Division as a contractor where he served as Systems Engineer supporting CISA’s Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation DEFEND E team including participation in CDM’s SELC Gate reviews. Prior to that assignment, he worked at BAE Systems as a Systems Engineer supporting CISA. He supported Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) – National Cybersecurity Protection System, applying SAFe standards to various projects. Waqas studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

    This session reviews the dynamic landscape of threats against CI, which include climate, terrorism, insider threats, and cyberattacks including the emerging challenges asserted by AI, which necessitate a proactive approach to security. To effectively address these emerging challenges, it is crucial to identify, monitor, and assess their potential impact. By continuously reviewing and updating policies, practices, and technologies, organizations can enhance their resilience and mitigate risks.
